FACEBOOK'S millions of users are the target of hackers, spammers and electronic criminals. Using their various techniques they are trying to coax users into scam surveys, fake applications and poisoned links, based on the Sophos Security reports. Facebook is not the only site being targeted.
- CLICKJACKING: The most common attacks against Facebook users. Maliciously created pages where the true function of a button is concealed underneath an opaque layer showing something different.At times sharing or offering similar content in a question send the attack out to contacts via news feeds and status updates, thus creating the scam.
- FAKE SURVEYS: Similar to the "clickjacking",,it attempts to make you click on something dangerous via a misleading message. Typically the scam starts with a provocative message. The survey earns money for the scammers; they get a commission for every survey completed.
- ROGUE APPLICATIONS: Fake surveys can lead to rogue applications. Sometimes the applications will look for your address contacts and then send the survey to everyone in your list.This is an attempt to increase the streams of income from the scammed clicks.Other rogue applications can hijack data by installing key loggers or other malware. Some fake applications are used to turn your computer into a zombie used to broadcast malware for the criminals.
- AMAZON EXPOSURE: A security flaw allows Amazon's servers to accept passwords that are nearly - but are not entirely correct. This flaw only has affected older passwords.
- SPEARPHISHING: Via regular E-MAIL, you may also be hit by a spear through Facebook or Twitter message. It works this way; you get an e-mail or message that seems very personal. It appears to be from a person or company with who you normally communicate.BUT, it leads you to a poisoned site.Spear phishing adds personalized information to reduce your suspicion.
These threats are the latest scams entering your network or communications through your computer, in your home, at work or even on the road. Fighting these are simple. They are; Being Aware, Suspicious, Cautious and when in doubt DO NOT; CLICK, DON'T RESPOND just DELETE.
