Now comes Drug Enforcement Administrator Michelle M. Leonhart, testifying before Congressional Investigators in the ATF "Fast & Furious" gun running to Mexico operation. She openly acknowledged to Congress that the DEA played a supporting role in the operation of the ATF.
She goes on to inform congressional investigators that the DEA Agents involved in Phoenix and Mexico helped gathered evidence in the only Federal Indictment in which approximately 20 people were indicted for gun-running.This is the first law enforcement agency which admits that it was part of the ATF gun-smuggling operation.
Remember that an estimated 2000 high velocity weapons were sold to gun runners. ATF authorized the weapon transaction to follow their destination and use in Mexico. The Fast & Furious ATF operation went awry, with loss of tracking most of the weapons once in Mexico. One of the weapons was used to kill a U.S. Border Patrol Agent (as we reported earlier) It has since been discovered that some of the weapons have been used in the United States..
