Considering the tragedy in Connecticut, at; Columbine, Phoenix   Congress & many State Governor's are trying to address the National Epidemic of GUN MAYHEM. It seems their sights are blurry at best, indifferent and lacks integrity and the truth.

Yes, we've seen violence at the school in Sandy Hook, Newton Connecticut, (what a nightmare for the families and the nation) or at the Century Theater in Aurora, Colorado, or the attempted assassination of Rep. Gifford, with the murdering of many of her admirer's, however the reaction to limiting gun control needs careful evaluation and consideration.

Listening to media talking heads who often find favor for gun control, especially "assault rifles", and  President Obama, V.P. Biden as well as many others calling for gun control forget that the legal and licensed gun owners are most often not the problem. It's the  thugs, gangsters and Gang members who have access to guns through "straw buyers", like the one in the "FAST & FURIOUS" Justice Department sting operation.  That's the problem!

A look at the murder rate in Chicago, 500 for the 2012 year, originates from criminal gang activity, random drive-by shootings and indiscriminate gun fire it's not coming from licensed gun owners.

At Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut, this was not a random act of violence, but rather the mentally challenged son of a licensed gun owner, murdered  by him. She lacked the discipline of gun control in her home. Therefore, should the families who live in a home with a legal gun be evaluated for mental stability to allow the owner to maintain the weapon. In this case, the mother had no control over the weapons nor could she deal with her disturbed son. With regrets one has to blame the deceased mother for a lack of control  and safety of the weapons. It's again not the gun that kills, but rather the person pulling the trigger. In this case it's also the responsibility of the licensed gun owner to secure the weapons.

Whether it's an AR-15 semi-automatic weapon or a 9 mm, Glock  control of the weapon, security of the weapons and proper training of the licensed gun owner is required. It's not the power of the AR-15. This is not a military weapon, it's a "look-a-like" type without the automatic firing construction  An assault weapon is that of AUTOMATIC military configuration, not a single trigger pull weapon. The difference is that the AR-15 weapon assault look-a-like requires the trigger to be pulled each time it fires. It may be able to rapid fire similar to an automatic, HOWEVER, it requires that the trigger must be pulled each time. 

It is already illegal to possess an automatic weapon within the United States, other than Law Enforcement and Military. I agree that we do not need a clip of bullets in excess of 10 rounds of ammunition, and to limit the cartridge to a 10 round clip. More weapons training is necessary. More than the 40 hours of weapons training that some states require, while others use a 16 hour training program. 

REMEMBER, the criminal will never go to get licensed, trained or even secure the weapon.

New York and New Jersey "Wiseguys" ( Mafia types) always practiced on particular farms in upstate New York or New Jersey. They were not Licensed and used automatic handguns, AK-47's and shotguns.
