The Justice Departments National Gang Intelligence Center estimate that they are the cause of the "primary retail-level distributors of most illicit drugs". Most gangs are engaged with U.S. and International drug-trafficking organizations. They affiliate themselves with other criminal enterprises to have access to foreign drug traffickers.
There has been a dramatic expansion in membership over the past ten years, according to the Midwest Gang Investigative Association, an organization of ten Mid-West State Law Enforcement Agents.
More than 900,000 gang members live in American communities, while more than 150,000 are in U.S. prisons.
In 2008 local law enforcement agencies report a 58% increase in gangs activity.
Gangs utilize the Internet to communicate and recruit new members throughout the United States.
Gangs, including, outlaw motorcycle gangs are a growing threat to law enforcement agencies and communities across America. These gangs are cooperating with gangs across the borders of Mexico and Canada, in numerous criminal activities and drug smuggling and distribution.
One of the most violent and influential gangs, MS-13, the original Salvadorian gangs which spread into the Los Angeles area. They are now spread across American inner cities ans suburban communities. They also have a strong presence in U.S. Prisons.
]
MS-13 is named for the gang "Mara Salvatrucha" which gained national prominence during the 1980's for their violent brutality in Los Angeles, California.
The FBI created an investigative group - "MS-13National Gang Task force" in 2004 to combat the rapid growth of the gang across America. Enforcement efforts included;
- Omaha, Nebraska seizure of 24 MS-13 members on federal firearms charges among other conspiracy crimes.
- In Nashville, it was reported in 2009, that MS-13 members were guilty of charges from murder to obstruction of justice.
- Maryland; 42 MS-13 members were convicted in Federal Court, more than half convicted of "racketeering conspiracy" whereas members participated in robberies, beatings and conspired to and murdered other gang members.
The Justice Department and the FBI have representatives inside El Salvador and in Central America to monitor and track MS-13 members. The government has added other agents to Honduras and Central America for the same purpose. MS-13 knows that they are there. They know from local word of mouth, communications and e-mail communications.
They continue to grow within America. The crisis in Mexico Border cities has aided MS-13 members to entrench themselves and they're criminal activity in Mexico and across the Border into America.
We need a full frontal assault against this organization. MS-13 is a danger to American stability. Importation of drugs, distribution of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin impacts our communities. They're human smuggling, leading to prostitution of young girls is another financial windfall.
Beat them not only with law enforcement, but by seizure of their assets. Make it impossible for MS-13 members to operate within America.
It's the TAX MAN, that can be successful here. As they did with Al Capone in the 1930's, the IRS should be a major force against MS-13 assets. Instead America is recruiting IRS agents to chase after Americans and supervise Health Care cheats...
America, Justice Department and the Treasury Department, along with Homeland Security should prioritize enforcement against MS-13..let's see that they do.
Send this via e-mail to your Congressman, Senator and the White House.
