Florida State legislators are proposing two bills to EXEMPT photos, videos and audio PUBLIC RECORD. This decision is based the video of the killing of Martin Lee Anderson a 14 year old Florida boy in a Juvenile Boot camp by Security Guards in 2006. This video allowed the State Legislators the evidence to close all State Boot Camps. Now comes the legislators 5 years later that want to hide from public view, blocking access to media outlets, the internet and the public from seeing such atrocities
Funny that in an environment where States are filling our city streets with Closed Circuit Cameras to monitor the streets, highways, and people, but they want to prevent the public from seeing the results of the inappropriate actions of a few law enforcement personnel who may deprive citizens, visitors and even the city they serve from having public access to such media.
While Florida is considering such action, New York City has used the Security Camera capture of the attempted bomber terrorist of Times Square to INCREASE the use of Security Cameras throughout New York City. Some cities in South Florida have instituted RED Light Camera to increase there financial tax base, help reduce accidents and identify the vehicles as the violator, while collecting the fine (fee) from the registered owner, even though the owner may not have been driving.

What Florida is trying to accomplish is to deprive the citizens and visitors from their Constitutional right to "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS". Some legislators want to block the public video of killings, murders and police inappropriate behavior from public scrutiny. They are offering that the victims families will be able to view in private without the press showing the crime scene on public television, Internet viewing, (they specifically mention You--Tube) access to the public.
DO NOT LET MARTIN LEE ANDERSON'S DEATH BE DENIED BY STATE LEGISLATORS OF FLORIDA. THIS OPEN FREEDOM OF THE PRESS AND THE RIGHT TO PUBLIC ACCESS OF INFORMATION MUST NOT BE DENIED
Martin Lee Anderson |
Get with it Florida, it's 2011, the 21st Century, no more hiding the killings, hangings, murders from public view.
