SCHOOL LOCKDOWNS FOR SAFETY ?

Yesterday, in the State of Florida, Broward County, the School System was on a total lockdown for approximately 5 hours. This was based on a telephone and internet threat that someone, a "husband" was going to the School with a gun to shoot someone. "That's" the initiation of the total lockdown.

Police are investigating and as of today it's being reported by South Florida Radio Talk mongers, that the FBI is also investigating.

The primary issue is the safety of the School children and employees of the School District. Since Columbine, things have changed. Stricter rules of enforcement, lockdowns are more frequent in school districts across America, and other factual incidents have caused such instructions.

I had a chance to speak with a 10 year old school kid from Broward today, who reports not only they were in lockdown, for five hours, they were not allowed to eat, drink, (only if they had a drink with them), or even go to the bathroom..

Is a contingency plan in place to deal with such an incident... maybe emergency sncaks (of course with food value) in the rooms, drinking water and plastic cups in the classroom. Are the classroom doors locked, if so, what about a fire escape plan....Lot's of questions, little answers.

The 10 year old didn't seem emotionally distrubed about her experience, but was obviously up set trhat she couldn't eat or go the the bathroom...5 hours, no decisions from the School Board, awaiting for Police answers and clearance.

After 5 hopurs someone gave an all clear signal to the District.

This is happening in every chool district throughout America. It's reactive response to incidents, new rules of security and even since "911" looking over your shoulder, maybe a terrorist is stalking you, is the common theme..This is no longer an Open Society, but rather a cultuure in shock and turmoil.

Protect the children, but plan a better action that requires the children to be safe and secure, without the psycological damage being instilled in thier youth..
