Just think how George Orwell predicted that BIG BROTHER is watching. Welcome to NEW YORK CITY. It's been announced that the NYPD will be monitoring your movements throughout the City. How? Through the latest technology available... between the Street Cameras throughout Times Square, they are adding hundreds more throughout specific communities. The NYPD argument is that these will offer safer streets, and the ability to capture, as they did, on camera, terrorist activities. No problem here!

However, they are also adding the collection of information on citizens, adding facial recognition databases, hiring computer cops, monitoring GPS tracking of specific subjects, vehicles, coupled with motor vehicle license plate database, to be interwoven with facial recognition and profiles of citizens. Just remember that almost every store, supermarket, highrise and low rise buildings have security cameras veiwing, digitally taping and available for police scrutiny. Often the collection of this security camera data helps solve crimes, identifies criminals and is specific evidence in prosecutions. No Problem here!

This is not just going through a red light and caught on camera. It's a public roadway and sidewalk into your life. Gather information as a preventive program makes sense. In the past, NYPD was required by court order to DESTROY intelligence files, or information they gathered on individuals, organizations, corporations and social groups.

They have now returned to the gathering, under the guise of preventing terror attacks. Is this paranoia or good police policy. It depends on which side of the coin you are sitting on. Through electronic, digital and video capturing NYPD will have the ability to profile cities, visitors, politicians, organizations as well as career criminals. Maybe if they concentrated on career criminals and street gangs with this technology, they may reduce recidivism, reduce crimes in specific communities and monitor criminal gangs, organized crime, and political anarchists, to name a few.

It all began with TRAFFIC LIGHT CAMERAS as a source of income and safer intersections. Now many cities across America are utilizing these cameras as a source of income, or some would say an additional tax on the community. Next, will they be looking at your cell phone calls, listening, tracking, disrupting or even intruding into your home. The technology that is available today can do all of these. Next it will be the requirement of putting a chip into newborns, at birth, so that they can be tracked, recovered and even watched as they grow. DNA of newborns is being collected, while illegal immigrants who invade our communities are crossing into America everyday with little intervention.

SHOULD NYPD HAVE THE RIGHT TO COLLECT SUCH INFORMATION ON THE EVERYDAY FAMILY, CITIZEN and EVEN VISITORS?
