AUG. 4, 1790 - U.S Congress created the United States Coast Guard to protect our trade on the seas. They originally commissioned 10 vessels for the first fleet.
They have a dual mission, Military and Law Enforcement responsibilities.
They are part of the Department of Treasury - Homeland Security.
Just this week protecting the United States from Drug Smuggling, they and the Drug Enforcement Agency captured a Drug Running Submarine, from Colombian Drug Cartels, seizing more than $180 million dollars of cocaine destined for the streets of the U.S.
GOOD WORK!!!
