Ronni Chassen |
He declared that "quasi experts" talking heads were on L.A. talk and entertainment shows spinning erronious or false information. For what purpose, well maybe; to sell stories that the murder has signs of a professional-hit, or whatever.
In fact the Chief announced just a few days ago that the gun used by the alleged gunman was "NOT" a match in the Chasen murder. Today, three days later he declares that preliminary ballistics tests reveal that the weapon used in the suicide MAY be the weapon used to kill Chasen. No definitive conclusion yet!
The Beverly Hills police are declaring that the crime may have been a robbery gone bad. The killer on a bicycle, confronts the victim at a traffic light, she in her Mercedes, shot approximately 5 times in the chest. Reports by the local media suggests that the LAPD recovered a bicycle near the scene.
The investigation is not nearly complete. The Chief's press conference was an attempt to have the conspiracy theorists reporting on the public airwaves discredited, with their inaccuracies and evaluations with little or no information and even conclusions that were not probable.
It is obvious that the Chief is holding certain information from the public at this time. He's maintaining proper investigative procedures, waiting for forensic results and evaluating the data collected from the deceased suicide gunman. It is also obvious to any reasonable investigator or reasonable person that the police activity in the aftermath of such a public murder of a high profile public person, needs all the t's crossed and the i's dotted.
Murder Investigation 101 describes the method of collection of information, interviews, locating witnesses, ballistics tests, forensic tests of evidence found at the crime scene or at the residence of the alleged killer is required.
The press and public want immediate answers and the case solved in 22 minutes as they see on the various T.V. shows. But this is real life, real people and real police. Along with the investigation requires specific procedures by police in accordance with Court decisions and Statutes of Procedural Law.
Hopefully the answer is at hand. But listening to some of the crime pundits makes one question their obvious expert motives. Fame, fortune, own t.v. show, book opportunities, etc...
The Chief is conducting a professional police investigation with his team of experienced detectives and other professional law enforcement agents, as well as the States Attorney's Office. No rush to judgement here. Just let's see good police work and follow-up without all the rumors, speculation and wandering & pondering.
